Friends or Lovers?

friendship

by Valerie Gervais

It’s a nice feeling having a best friend from the opposite gender and knows the way they think. He can tell and explain things that your same gender may never know. And the best of it, He can protect you and care for you like nobody does. It’s a great feeling especially when the best of friend relationship ends up as lovers. As they say, friendship is the best foundation of a healthy relationship. However, what will you do when things changed and suddenly avoids you for some reasons?

What do you mean by a Just God?

What do you mean by a Just God?

by Valerie Gervais

He rules the world in righteousness and judges the peoples with equity. The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. – Psalm 9:7-10

God is fair and impartial; He can and will judge; he would administer justice in accordance with his standards. God alone is the ultimate judge. And God knows your heart and examines your mind. So for those of us who are desperately waiting for justice, sooner or later, justice will be served even after death. In oppression and in times of trouble, bad things spoken against you, our Big Bro up there sees all. As what a comic speaker have shared this value in a funnier version: “They trouble you, God will trouble them.”

When justice is done, it is a joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.- Proverbs 21:15

God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you. – 2 Thessalonians 1:6

The standard of god is His righteousness. This is the benchmark or standard for everything. God alone is the ultimate god. Knowing god as judge secures us. This is the “refuge” God has endowed us. Even if we are just humans in the eyes of the ultimate God, he let us pass the standard or the benchmark via “REDEMPTION”. He gives all the chances to repent. Because God is truly JUST. And it’s truly grateful to know this from the one up there.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. – John 3:16-17

Acquaintance or a Friend?

Acquaintance or a Friend?

by Valerie Gervais

We have got a wide circle of acquaintance and friends. We know people by name but not by the personality. And obviously speaking, we won’t cover the detailed in-betweens of these two as we’ll surely cover the entire page once we discuss all the differences. Cumulatively speaking, an acquaintance is a person one knows slightly, but who is not a close friend (sidenote: thanks to Mr. Google). You feel COMFORTABLE around with an ACQUAINTANCE while you feel SAFE around with the people whom you call “FRIENDS”. Sometimes the people around us that we call friends are just acquaintances.

But hey, by the way, is God an acquaintance or a friend to you? Who is God to you?

If you would put one word to describe what is God to you personally, people would define it differently; God is love, faithful, God is a father, a saviour, a provider, the deliverer, a friend, healer, the creator, God is the Messiah, redeemer, conqueror… These answers depend on what you have experienced it on your own, right? You’ve proudly said that God is a provider when you have experienced God providing for you. God is a healer because you have experienced God healed you. Manifested by his character, God revealed himself in this world as a healer. These attributes of our Lord God, His character, His nature, are His manifested characteristics through His word.

He is also faithful, loving, merciful, and gracious. These are the attributes of God the we love. How about the attributes of God that we don’t like because we don’t understand? Just God…Holy God…

Love is not blind but Lovers are

True love

Love is not blind but Lovers are

by Valerie Gervais

We like the feeling when people love you for who you are.  Some people say that “love is blind”; mind you, this is a popular saying about love.  Hence, is this for real? Or you can only see this in books?  I believe that love is not blind, but lover’s are.  We decide to close our eyes when we are so much in love with the person.  God gave you eyes to see and a mind to think, but because you are following too much your emotion, you try to ignore or you are already ignoring the person’s flaws and faults.  Too much emotion of love can make you ignore shortcomings and problems your lover brings.  This is your way not to lose the person you love because you are afraid to stay alone and you have this insecurity that people around you have relationship and you do not have.

3 Truths beyond “love is blind”.

1. Love is not blind, but you are just ignoring the truth. (2 Samuel 11:1-5)

“In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah.  But David remained in Jerusalem.

 2 One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, 3 and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” 4 Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (Now she was purifying herself from her monthly uncleanness.) Then she went back home. 5 The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, “I am pregnant.”

This is a stage of denial.  You ignore the truth and close your eyes in the process of loving someone.  You know the command of God about true love, and waiting for the right time, but you ignore it just to follow the physical desire and emotion.  You give in to what you feel, at the wrong time and place, and in the end, you commits sin.  It is not an accident or a mistake, it is an intentional sin.  In the first place, you know the word of God, you know His command, you know what is wrong and what is right, so you know how to avoid possible things or sin to happen.  You are aware on everything.  You are not perfect but you can make things right.

2. Love is not blind, but you are just bending the truth. (2 Samuel 11:6)

6 So David sent this word to Joab: “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” And Joab sent him to David. 7 When Uriah came to him, David asked him how Joab was, how the soldiers were and how the war was going. 8 Then David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” So Uriah left the palace, and a gift from the king was sent after him. 9 But Uriah slept at the entrance to the palace with all his master’s servants and did not go down to his house.

10 David was told, “Uriah did not go home.” So he asked Uriah, “Haven’t you just come from a military campaign? Why didn’t you go home?”

 11 Uriah said to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah are staying in tents,[a] and my commander Joab and my lord’s men are camped in the open country. How could I go to my house to eat and drink and make love to my wife? As surely as you live, I will not do such a thing!”

 12 Then David said to him, “Stay here one more day, and tomorrow I will send you back.” So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next. 13 At David’s invitation, he ate and drank with him, and David made him drunk. But in the evening Uriah went out to sleep on his mat among his master’s servants; he did not go home.

 14 In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah. 15 In it he wrote, “Put Uriah out in front where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die.”

This is the stage of pretending.  When you are so much in love with the person, you pretend that nothing is wrong with him.  You pretend that his attitude and character does not matter or you pretend that he is a good catch to justify the love you feel.  Even the person is hurting you, or doing something wrong, or neglecting you, you still try to act as if nothing happened and give good reason for things that went wrong.  You cover the bad things your relationship has.  You wear your mask in front of others just to hide the truth.

You cannot bend the truth and you cannot hide anything from God.

3. Love is not blind; you are just deceiving yourself. (2 Samuel 11:26-27)

26 When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him. 27 After the time of mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing David had done displeased the Lord.

This is the stage of deception.  The lie is a lie, but you are accepting the lie as the truth.  This is not good for you because you ignore all the wrong things your relationship has, and you pretend too much that everything is alright; you begin to accept the lie as the truth.  And with this, you are now confused.  You don’t know who to follow anymore; you are choosing between the love for God and the love you feel for the other person.  Is this right?  Of course not!  God is the center for every relationship, if it’s not God, then your relationship will only struggle. Without God in the center, you will only do wrong things and commit sin.

The basic truth is when God say it’s wrong, it’s wrong.  Follow God.  In the first place He will give you what you are asking for.  Ask for the right person.  Set a standard and make it high, because God will always give you what is best for you. Do not settle for less.

Do not let other person take advantage of you.  Know your self-worth. Give yourself a worth.  If you still have no idea about love, or confuse about true love, search and know the truth.  If you know the true meaning of love and its value, you can guard yourself and your heart.  No one can fool you.  And if you want to set your standard, here’s your criteria as 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 says;

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

If does real love, then there’s no evil stuff in there.  Real love sees the truth and no lies.  God is the center of the relationship and His words are your standard.

Why Fasting is Important in your walk with God?

isaiah-58_9-001

Why Fasting is Important in your walk with God?

Fasting is important in your walk with God because this is the time you want to put God first rather yourself. It’s not easy to fast, especially when you are the kind of person who loves to eat. Yes, fasting means abstaining from food and I heard a lot of people doing this but sadly with the wrong motives.

If we want to know what is the true fasting, we need to know what fasting is not so we can compare if we are doing it right.

What is fasting?

Fasting is not:

1. It’s not a hunger strike. You are not eating just to demand and force God to bless you. You cannot force God because He will still bless you without limiting yourself from food.

2. It’s not to earn God’s favor. You are not eating because you want God to increase favor in your life. God’s favor is in you; you are already son or daughter of God. And if you are walking in obedience, His favor is already in you.

3. It’s not to impress the Lord. You do not have to do anything to impress Him because the Lord already died for us and impressed us.

What is fasting?

Fasting is abstaining from food to focus and spend time with the Lord. Fasting is important in your walk with God because you will understand that the point of fasting is to spend time with the Lord. Fasting is hard, but it’s a spiritual discipline that reminds you about craving and hunger for God. When you feel hungry for food, you will remember that you are hungry for God. And the result, you will spend more time with God; reading the Bible and having your devotion. Fasting is the time to seek and think about God. When you feel hungry, start praying and reading the Bible to feed your spirit. Hunger reminds you to read and know God better, deeper.

Why do we fast?

16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. (Matthew 6:16)

Do not fast to show to others that you are religious or spiritual. Do not fast to impress others that you are greater than them. Do not fast to show others that God is in you but they cannot see it in your daily life.

Fasting is important in your walk with God because you will understand the true meaning of living a life with God in truth than living it in lies. You do not have to pretend that you are living a spiritual life, because when you fast you will understand the true meaning and the way you have to live.

How to fast?

Before you fast, prepare yourself and do the following:

  1. Be in faith. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you.
  2. Commit to a type of fast. Know the kinds of fasting: water fasting, one meal fasting, Liquid fasting (natural and fresh juices or soup).
  3. Attend prayer meetings. This will help to encourage you because you in a group who also do the fasting.
  4. Look for a prayer partner. Choose someone as your partner so you will have accountability and will directly encourage you every day and you will do the same to him.
  5. Plan your calendar. Plan your activities so you will have a guide and you will know what to do in the days of your fasting.
  6. Prepare your body. If you are ill or sick, ask first from doctor. Or if you are pregnant ask first from your doctor. Do not join a 10k running competition or fun run in the process of fasting.

How to act when you are fasting?

17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, (Matthew 6:17)

Live and act as normal person. Be productive and do your duties or purpose. You can tell to others that you are fasting only if they ask you but do not boast about it. Keep your humility with you.

Fasting is important in your walk with God because you will understand that you need humility to put God first before yourselves. You are choosing to pray and spend time with God than feeding your flesh.

What is the reward of fasting?

18 so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.  (Matthew 6:18)

If you fast with the wrong motives you will get a reward from men but when you fast with the right motives you will a get reward from God.

Fasting is important in your walk with God because you will understand the difference of rewards and the blessings. Answered prayers are not the rewards from fasting. The reward is not to get closer with God because Jesus died to bring us closer instead when we fast we align our hearts with God. When you fast, you can hear God because your heart is aligning with the heart of God. The greatest blessing is the aligning of your heart and your heart to God. As Matthew 6:33 says;

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

In a nutshell, the moment you spend with God during fasting is the moment you seek God and know Him better. And the true meaning of fasting is spending time with God to align your heart to God. As Isaiah 58:5-11 says

5 Is this the kind of fast I have chosen, only a day for a man to humble himself ? Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed and for lying on sackcloth and ashes? Is that what you call a fast, a day acceptable to the LORD? 6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter– when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? 8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. 9 Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. “If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, 10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. 11 The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

Fasting is important in your walk with God because you get the greatest reward and that is the aligning of your heart to the heart of the Lord. You can hear Him and you know His answer to your questions and problems. Your relationship with the Lord grows deeper and you love Him more as you learned more about Him.

Mission out of Passion, Your Divine Calling and Purpose in Living

Mission out of Passion, Your Divine Calling and Purpose in Living

There are so many things that you can be passionate about.  It’s either cooking or sewing, or biking and other hobbies that most people do out of passion.   I know a lot of people who runs 10 kilometers or go for biking from town to town.  Some go for mountain hiking, and look for adventure on their way.  And all of this is because of passion.  As people say, you will never feel tired if you’re doing it out of love.  Passion is enjoying the things you do and you enjoy it because you love it.  People choose the kind of work related to their passion, because they want to enjoy every minute doing it.  If you want to grow on what you are doing, make sure you do things out of passion and not out of responsibilities or duties.  It’s like doing your mission out of passion, your divine calling and purpose in living.

I know a lot of people who has different passion.  You can feel their love as they approach and talk to people.  Their passion is to share the Gospel to others, going from town to town or sometimes going out of the country, living their family beyond.  They are lucky if they will go outside the country with their family, doing this mission together.  If you have this kind of passion as missionaries you know that you are doing this mission out of passion, your divine calling and purpose of living.  This is the same with Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 9:19;

19 Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21 To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

If you have seen or known a missionary, you may think and ask what are their reasons for going out of the country?  It’s natural to think and ask “Why will I go to a nation I have never been before living my comfort zone behind?”  And God will also show you the answer as what He did to the missionaries.  If you have the heart to win others for Christ, you will go out and share the Gospel.  This is the sacrifice that missionaries are going through.  They go from different places just to share the love of God for us.  They give their time and devotion to share to you the Good News that God wants you to know.

God may call you as a preacher, a doctor, a teacher, a soldier, or other titles you may have, and wherever places you will be, your main purpose is to share the Gospel and win others.

You have 2 ways to win others:

1. Showing a Christ-like Character.  Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

You may ask why showing a Christ like character should be the first and not sharing the Gospel.  My reason is, you can share the Gospel but they may not believe you if they know you are not living with what you are preaching.

Christ lived His everyday life with these nine qualities, showing a perfect example to the people.  Having these qualities will help you to win others, especially your family.  You do not need to say anything or push the teachings to them so they may believe, but you need to show them naturally.

Live the way God wants you to be.  Live  what you have learned from the Gospel.  As a believer of Christ you have to show them how God changed your life.  He taught you how to live and to obey His teachings as a new creation of God.   As Ephesians 4:22-24 says;

22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Setting yourself as a good example will encourage others to believe that God is really in you.  Remember, you are not the one who is calling them, instead, God call them for a purpose, and He’s just using you as a channel to share the Gospel and to show to them His miracle in changing your life.

2. Sharing the Gospel.  Matthew 28:19-20

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

The person who sees the changes in your life is also the person who will go to you and ask for your help.  Sharing the Gospel has 2 openings:  It’s either you have to approach others and share the Gospel or they will approach you to know what changed you.  Any of the two will give you opportunities to share the love of God for them.  Remember that, you are God’s ambassador; share what the Lord did for you.  Teach others as God taught you.

Sharing the Gospel is not the end of the process.  You have to teach them what you have know and care for them as God taught and cared for you.  Teach them to know the Lord deeper, committing themselves to God by building a strong relationship with Him.  Start a small group and lead them in knowing Christ more.

Each of us have different calling.  We have different mission in life.  As a believer of Christ, you can win your family, friends or co-workers by sharing the Gospel.  Live your everyday life with your Christ-like character for you to win them, because you cannot win them if you are showing a different attitude, against the teaching of the Lord.  Do your mission out of passion, your divine calling and purpose in living and you will be on the right path.

I am a massage therapist, and this is my passion.  I also love doing charity works, and giving free counseling like listening to people’s problem, giving advices, comfort them and pray for them.  At first I do not know what I am passionate about, until God showed me my divine calling. He saved me and keeps on teaching me the way He wants my life to be.  I believe that I am doing my mission out of passion, out of love for God.

Things to Do Before Moving On

Breaking-Up-Couple

Things to Do Before Moving On

How many times you tried to love and start a relationship but end up having a broken heart? It’s sad right? It hurts and you cannot explain the heaviness you feel, directly into your heart. You feel like it’s hard for you to breathe or you think that any time you will faint because of the pain you feel for being heartbroken.

After break up you want to push yourself to move on. You change yourself, your physical appearance, your job or your group of friends. But is it effective? It’s better to make a list of things to do before moving on; it will help you to learn your lesson and to start a new life without bitterness in your heart. It’s hard but with God, everything is possible. As Matthew 19:26 says;

“Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Now, here’s the list of the things you need to do to avoid repeating the history of a failure relationship.

Things to do before moving on:

1. What are the problems? Nehemiah 1:3

3 They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”

You need to understand the situation you are in. You need to analyze the things that went wrong. Ask if He is really from God or you just push everything to make it fit? Remember the first day that the person comes into your life and the development that happen. Is the relationship pleases God? When you analyze the things that went wrong to the relationship, you will see the problem. And when you already know the problem it’s time for you to talk to God.

2. When was the last time you prayed? Nehemiah 1:4

“4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.

When you feel broken, you feel like you can cry all day. Cry if you want to cry but please do not dwell too much. Seeing the things that breaks your heart makes you helpless, hopeless and you think that it’s the end of the world but it’s not. You have to move and pick up yourself and move forward. You just have to Pray and ask God to help you to move on.

When you saw the situation and don’t understand, come to God and Pray directly to him. Take the time to Pray for you to recover, and for comfort. You need God’s love in this difficult situation. You also need Pray not only for yourself but also for others. Let Him go directly to your heart; Welcome Him into your life. As Nehemiah 1:5 says;

5 Then I said: “O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands,

3. You are part of the problem. Nehemiah 1:6-7

6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s house, have committed against you. 7 We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses.

It takes two to Tango. Don’t blame your partner and don’t blame yourself but accept your fault. When you recognize the problem, ask forgiveness to yourself and to God. For yourself because you let other people hurt you, and you also hurt yourself and to God for not listening and obeying to His command. Confess for all the sins you made during the relationship. Unloading your burdens to God and confessing your sin will ease the pain in your heart. It’s easier to move when you are light. Have you try running with heavy loads? It’s hard right? But it’s easier to move when you unload unnecessary things or emotions you are carrying.

4. Know the relationship you first break. Nehemiah 1:7

7 We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses. 8 “Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, 9 but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.’ 10 “They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand. 11 O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man.” I was cupbearer to the king.

After making mistakes and disobeying God and getting the result of failed relationship, then you need to change your route. Start again in searching and building your new self through walking with God. Remember that the time you go and make mistakes in disobeying God’s command is the time you break His heart. Your relationship to God is your first relationship before you met the person that breaks your heart. So if you want to move on and change yourself start serving God and fix your relationship with Him.

It’s easy to move on when you solve the problem inside you. You can ask God to change your heart and yourself. Learn the lesson from the past and list the things to do before moving on and make it priority on your list to commit yourself to God; to follow Him and listen to His words. Remember, if you want a long-lasting relationship, start building one with God.

The New Things that God is Giving You

confession copy

The New Things that God is Giving You

Have you ask yourself what are the new things that you want to receive this coming Christmas? What are the things you are looking forward to buy or to get as gifts from friend or relatives? Have you buy those nice pair of shoes in the mall or the beautiful blouse in the boutique? Things are getting more exciting while waiting for Christmas day to come.

I love new things especially during birthdays, and holiday season. Yearly I am praying for different things like mobile phones, laptop and other things that I am looking forward to receive this Christmas. The moment it came, people can see in my face the excitement and happiness. You remember that feeling when you receive a gift? It’s the same. You are full of joy and want to show it to everyone.

God keeps on preparing something new for us. He is generous and forgiving God. And He sent Jesus to save us, but not all people are embracing it. People feel guilty because of the committed sins. But until when will people feel like this? Does nobody know what God is giving to us?

New Things that God is giving:

1. The gift of No Condemnation. Romans 8:1-4

8 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

We could now live and walk through the spirit because there is no more condemnation. Condemnation means finding someone guilty or criminal act. And if you are guilty, there is judgment and punishment.

But Jesus saves you when He died on the cross. He died for you to pay your sin. With this, He sets you free. It gives you new life, free of guilt and you can move forward to change into better person.

There is no condemnation now but before going to the premises of God, we need to repent for our sins and acknowledge what Christ did for us. We need to ask forgiveness from God for all the committed sins to purify our heart and soul. This will take away our guilt from the heart. As 1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

2. The gift of freedom. Romans 8:2-4

2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh,4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

The Lord set you free from sin and you shall thank God and rejoice. We can now live and continue our walk with God according to the spirit. We can start our new life, and change ourselves into better person, thus avoid committing the same mistake or sin.

The Lord empowered us through the Holy Spirit, to change us into the likeness of Christ every day. Only the Holy Spirit can change our heart. We cannot change ourselves on our own. Naturally, living in the flesh, our mind sets on our own desire that is why we cannot change our old self but when we start living with the Spirit, our mindset changed into the desire of the Spirit.. As Romans 8:5-8 says;

5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

Living with the Spirit, means God is in us, therefore we belong to Christ. This gives us new life to live, rejoice and worship God. Having a new life is having a purpose and obligation that pleases God. The Spirit will guide you in your walk with God in fulfilling your purpose. As Romans 8:9-12 says;

9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

3. The gift of new relationship. Romans 8:14-17

14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

When you accepted God, a new relationship started. God calls you as sons or daughters. You have the right to call Him father and ask the desire of your heart. You are secure that you can go to God and He accepts you for who you are.

Having this intimate relationship with God gives you security that no matter what happen, you can call him and He will answer you. And because you have the relationship with God, you are comfortable talking to God, confessing your sin, sharing your thoughts and desires of your heart.

This relationship with God, gives you assurance God saves you. You have this assurance that everything is in control and you are in good hands. He will guide you and will always there for you because you are His son or daughter. The Holy Spirit testifies that to you. He will bless you but He will also discipline you. He will deal with your character to mold you into better person. This is His ways in showing how much He loves you as His son or daughter.

Knowing God’s gifts prepared for us, what will you choose: The old self having a boring life or a new self with a joyful life? Think about it.
