The New Things that God is Giving You
Have you ask yourself what are the new things that you want to receive this coming Christmas? What are the things you are looking forward to buy or to get as gifts from friend or relatives? Have you buy those nice pair of shoes in the mall or the beautiful blouse in the boutique? Things are getting more exciting while waiting for Christmas day to come.
I love new things especially during birthdays, and holiday season. Yearly I am praying for different things like mobile phones, laptop and other things that I am looking forward to receive this Christmas. The moment it came, people can see in my face the excitement and happiness. You remember that feeling when you receive a gift? It’s the same. You are full of joy and want to show it to everyone.
God keeps on preparing something new for us. He is generous and forgiving God. And He sent Jesus to save us, but not all people are embracing it. People feel guilty because of the committed sins. But until when will people feel like this? Does nobody know what God is giving to us?
New Things that God is giving:
1. The gift of No Condemnation. Romans 8:1-4
8 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
We could now live and walk through the spirit because there is no more condemnation. Condemnation means finding someone guilty or criminal act. And if you are guilty, there is judgment and punishment.
But Jesus saves you when He died on the cross. He died for you to pay your sin. With this, He sets you free. It gives you new life, free of guilt and you can move forward to change into better person.
There is no condemnation now but before going to the premises of God, we need to repent for our sins and acknowledge what Christ did for us. We need to ask forgiveness from God for all the committed sins to purify our heart and soul. This will take away our guilt from the heart. As 1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
2. The gift of freedom. Romans 8:2-4
2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh,4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
The Lord set you free from sin and you shall thank God and rejoice. We can now live and continue our walk with God according to the spirit. We can start our new life, and change ourselves into better person, thus avoid committing the same mistake or sin.
The Lord empowered us through the Holy Spirit, to change us into the likeness of Christ every day. Only the Holy Spirit can change our heart. We cannot change ourselves on our own. Naturally, living in the flesh, our mind sets on our own desire that is why we cannot change our old self but when we start living with the Spirit, our mindset changed into the desire of the Spirit.. As Romans 8:5-8 says;
5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
Living with the Spirit, means God is in us, therefore we belong to Christ. This gives us new life to live, rejoice and worship God. Having a new life is having a purpose and obligation that pleases God. The Spirit will guide you in your walk with God in fulfilling your purpose. As Romans 8:9-12 says;
9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.
3. The gift of new relationship. Romans 8:14-17
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
When you accepted God, a new relationship started. God calls you as sons or daughters. You have the right to call Him father and ask the desire of your heart. You are secure that you can go to God and He accepts you for who you are.
Having this intimate relationship with God gives you security that no matter what happen, you can call him and He will answer you. And because you have the relationship with God, you are comfortable talking to God, confessing your sin, sharing your thoughts and desires of your heart.
This relationship with God, gives you assurance God saves you. You have this assurance that everything is in control and you are in good hands. He will guide you and will always there for you because you are His son or daughter. The Holy Spirit testifies that to you. He will bless you but He will also discipline you. He will deal with your character to mold you into better person. This is His ways in showing how much He loves you as His son or daughter.
Knowing God’s gifts prepared for us, what will you choose: The old self having a boring life or a new self with a joyful life? Think about it.
